Developer IllFonic has announced that asymmetrical multiplayer slash-’em-up Friday the 13th: The Game will receive its long-awaited single-player challenge mode this Thursday, May 24th. That’s not all though; Thursday’s massive free update will introduce ten solo challenge stages (enabling players to unlock a total of 30 new emotes), a new counsellor in the form of Victoria Sterling, major rebalancing for Part 7 Jason, AI bot improvements for offline mode, a new dedicated matchmaking queue for rage-quitters, new weapon swapping and keybinding options, perk adjustments, new skins for Roy, engine improvements, and more. All of those are detailed more thoroughly on IllFonic’s regularly updated news blog. Friday the 13th was originally set to receive its single-player component last summer, but IllFonic announced a delay in August, noting that “We want to be satisfied before we unleash it”. The developer eventually revealed three different solo modes: offline bots and Virtual Cabin (both of which launched some time back) and an open-ended, Hitman-esque challenge mode. IllFonic finally showed challenge mode in February, explaining that each stage would task players (in the role of Jason, naturally) with figuring out a way to complete a specific, but mostly murder-y, objective – such as slaying every character in a level, locating and eliminating a specific character first, or successfully maiming using a certain weapon. Single-player challenges, alongside all of IllFonic new features and revisions, will be available for free when Friday the 13th’s new update launches on PC, Xbox One, and PS4 on May 24th.
