GOOGLE is planning to release three Pixel smartwatches this Autumn in a bid to overthrow Apple’s reigning champ. The devices – code-named Ling, Triton and Sardine – could come in different sizes like Apple’s 38mm and 42mm watches, according to German site Winfuture.de. Or they could boast alternate specs: one could have cellular (allowing you to make and receive calls without a smartphone connection) in the vein of the pricier £399 Apple Watch. The new report adds Google’s trio will tout GPS, LTE (the ability to connect over 4G) and VoLTE (better voice calls using 4G) support. And at least some, if not all three, Pixel Watches will pack a heart rate sensor and the ability to detect stress levels. Renowned tech leaker Evan Blass also tweeted that a new timepiece will launch at the big G’s annual Pixel event (alongside the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL smartphones, and new Pixel Buds earphones), which is expected to take place in October. Besides the Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL, and second-gen Pixel Buds, a reliable source tells me — with high confidence — that Google’s fall hardware event will also introduce a Pixel-branded watch.
