SWEDISH YouTube star PewDiePie is one of the biggest stars with tens of millions of followers.
But who is PewDiePie, what’s his real name and how much money does he make? Here’s the lowdown
Who is PewDiePie?
He has over 89 million fans making him the second most subscribed person on the channel for his Let’s Play commentaries.
PewDiePie‘s channel has received over 13 billion video views and he was named one of “The World’s 100 Most Influential People” by Time magazine.
Felix was born in 1989 in Gothenburg, Sweden, and graduated from university with a degree in Industrial Economics and Technology Management, but in 2013, he had the most subscribed YouTube channel.
He currently lives in Brighton with his Italian fashion and beauty vlogger girlfriend Marzia Bisognin with their two pugs, Maya and Edgar.
The couple, who have been together since 2011, were introduced over the internet and have been referred to as YouTube’s biggest power couple.
But in November 2018 Marzia quit YouTube.
What does Felix Kjellberg make videos about?
His “bros” and the collective “Bro Army” wouldn’t exactly call him quiet.
Felix is known for his quirky videos and enthusiasm.
He plays indie games, makes cheeky remarks and is very loose lipped.
Was he mentioned during the New Zealand mosque shootings?
The New Zealand gunman mentioned PewDiePie during his sickening live-stream of the attack.
In the live stream, the shooter said: “Remember, lads, subscribe to PewDiePie.”
But the Swedish YouTube star expressed his horrified reaction on Twitter.
PewDiePie said: “Just heard news of the devastating reports from New Zealand Christchurch.
“I feel absolutely sickened having my name uttered by this person.
“My heart and thoughts go out to the victims, families and everyone affected by this tragedy.”
Why has he been accused of anti-Semitism?
Disney announced it would be severing links with the Swede over several controversial videos he had released.
Some of the videos contained references to Nazis and were found to be anti-Semitic.
Among them was one clip in which he paid two Indian nationals to hold a sign saying: “Death to all Jews.”
A statement from Disney subsidiary Maker Studios read: “Although Felix has created a following by being provocative and irreverent, he clearly went too far in this case and the resulting videos are inappropriate.”
He courted controversy again in December 2018 after doing a shout-out to an anti-Semitic video channel.
During his Pew News segment he directed viewers to E;R, an essayist which slips anti-Semitic and misogynistic comments into videos about anime and films.
But the 29-year-old said he wasn’t familiar with the channel’s content and blasted what he called a “shame campaign”.
He said: “Anyone with the level-headed brain can tell that I don’t know this guy. (It’s) a shame campaign to smear my name.”
But in his most recent video, PewDiePie said he regretted promoting the channel and wouldn’t have done it if he was more familiar with its content.
He added: “I removed E;R from that video.
“If I knew then what I knew now, I wouldn’t have put him in there… I’ll be more careful in the future.”
Why was he been accused of racism?
In September 2017 he was at the centre of a firestorm after using the racial slur “n*****” in one of his videos AGAIN.
He had previously found himself at the centre of a racism row when he appeared to use the word “n*****” in a video watched by 2.7 million people.
The Swede sparked an antis-Smitism storm after he paid two men to unravel a banner bearing the message “Death to all Jews” in a video that has been watched by 6.6m people.
PewDiePie has issued a passionate and emotional response to the claims of anti-Semitism, appearing to choke back tears as he spoke out against the backlash.
His fans have targeted the American journalist and hacked his Twitter account in revenge for the perceived attacks on the much loved YouTuber’s reputation.
A tweet was also retweeted from the star’s YouTube account which featured a hashtag containing the same racial slur, provoking an explosion of criticism on social media.
What is PewDiePie worth?
His total net worth is unclear.
But his yearly income from his YouTube channel is staggeringly high considering his low overheads.
In 2018 Forbes listed him as being the ninth top-earning star on YouTube, raking in $15.5million (£11million).
In a video released on March 29 PewDiePie revea;ed he makes around $3,400 (£2,606) an hour.
