Black Friday 2019 hits next week, which means it's time to start thinking about which stores will have deals on the things you're shopping for this holiday season. A few stores have already announced their Black Friday deals, and Amazon has gotten a bit ahead of the competition with its Happy HoliDeals sale.As with Prime Day, Amazon's holiday deals page includes a mix of Lightning Deals--which are only available for a limited time--and longer-term deals that should be available throughout the duration of this first round of deals (or while supplies last). The early holiday sale runs through this Thursday, November 21. Then, starting Friday, November 22, Amazon's Black Friday sale will officially begin. The week of deals will run right up until November 29, Black Friday itself.Unfortunately, Amazon is keeping things vague in terms of the actual deals that will be offered, and the retailer's press release mentions only discounts rather than actual sale prices. In the midst of Google Stadia's launch window, another cloud-based game streaming service is dropping its price for Black Friday 2019. The service is called Shadow, and it's been around for a while. Shadow requires you to pay a subscription to access its data centers, which grant you your own virtual Windows 10 PC with high-end specs--you're essentially renting a gaming PC and then streaming it to your device. While a year-long subscription comes out to $25 per month, Shadow's price will drop down to $13 a month (one-year commitment) for Black Friday.Since you're accessing a remote, high-end desktop PC, you'll be able to sign in to your own digital store accounts. Be it Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG, or anywhere else, you'll have access to their storefronts and your library. Google Stadia is a closed platform with its own store and titles, so you won't be able to play any of the games you already own. However, Stadia doesn't require a subscription if you're okay with streaming your … [Read more...] about Black Friday 2019: This Google Stadia Alternative Is Getting A Big Discount
For years now we’ve been hearing about the death of physical media. Where major newspapers once carried weekly DVD reviews, the only time the shiny discs seem to make an appearance these days is as part of doom-laden stories about John Lewis de-listing DVD players or HMV going bust (again). But are things really so bad?Admittedly, when you look at the big picture it doesn’t look especially hopeful. A recent report from the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) revealed a whopping 48 per cent decline in global physical media sales between 2014 and 2018 - in monetary terms, that equates to a drop in value from $25.2bn to $13.1bn. And here in the UK, Captain Marvel can jump straight in to the number one spot on the Official Film Chart, one week ahead of its disc release, based solely on digital download sales.Look closer, though, and things aren’t quite so clear cut. While the major Hollywood studios are certainly shifting their focus away from discs and towards … [Read more...] about Is it just me, or has the death of physical media been exaggerated?
Now that the dust has settled (reformed?) after Avengers: Endgame and Marvel has revealed its Marvel Phase 4 slate, the question about where the MCU goes next has been answered with a smorgasbord of films and TV shows on the soon- to-be-launched Disney Plus service. But one seemingly still-active Avenger is conspicuously absent from the line-up: Hulk.Perhaps that isn’t surprising, given the chequered cinematic past of the not-so-jolly green giant. Between the Lou Ferrigno TV movies, Ang Lee’s much-maligned 2003 effort starring Eric Bana and the MCU’s own, Edward Norton-fronted The Incredible Hulk (regularly found lurking at the lower end of any Marvel-movie ranking), it’s arguable that we’ve never had a great standalone Hulk outing.Despite this, the character continues to be much-loved, due in no small part to Mark Ruffalo’s performances as both Banner and the beast (as well as fan- favourite moments including the “puny god” Loki-bashing … [Read more...] about Is it just me, or should there be no more Hulk movies?
