Augmented reality outdoor tracking using ArCore and GPS

January 28, 2019 by stackexchange Leave a Comment

I have a unity android augmented reality application using googles arcore SDK. In the unity application i have a swarm of drones that fly arround the scene. As well as this, i have a 3d model of the environment i am within. The virtual drones fly around the virtual 3d model. This 3d model is alligned with the real world so that the drones are obscured behind the real world objects. in the unity application the 3d model of the environment is drawn invisible after alignment so that it cannot be seen in AR. Although I am able to successfully align my virtual model with the real world so that it looks like the drones fly behind the buildings, I am looking to implement the GPS position of the phone so I can effectively move around within the virtual/real environment. The GPS position alone isn't good enough to align well enough. Has anybody come across this problem before? Maybe using a Kalman filter along with information from ARCore could solve this? or implementing edge detection with my … [Read more...] about Augmented reality outdoor tracking using ArCore and GPS

Angry Birds Augmented Reality Game Coming to Magic Leap

September 19, 2018 by gamerant Leave a Comment

Rovio has unveiled the first augmented reality iteration of its Angry Birds franchise, appropriately named Angry Birds FPS: First Person Shooter. Of course, it’s a bit of a unique take on the FPS genre, as gamers will take control of the infamous slingshot present in previous games and complete various physic puzzles. However, to play this game, the gamer will need to own Magic Leap’s latest AR headset, which retails for $2,300. While that price may seem extravagant for some, it remains a step forward for augmented reality gaming. The aforementioned Angry Birds game, which we included on our list of games/franchises that need an AR title, is unique, crispy, and delivers an entirely immersive expense. In this game, instead of using fingers to fling the birds, gamers will take control of the slingshot itself. Rovio collaborated with Resolution Games to perfect these mechanics in augmented reality, which gives it a really immersive experience. After all, it seems like … [Read more...] about Angry Birds Augmented Reality Game Coming to Magic Leap

How Geo-location based Augmented Reality Apps work?

June 5, 2018 by juegostudio Leave a Comment

2018 has seen an increased interest in augmented reality as the technology becomes more easily available to users everywhere. In a nutshell, augmented reality(AR) works by layering 2D or 3D virtual content on top of real world locations and objects, which can be accessed using smart devices such as phones and tablets and also wearable technology such as smart glasses. Unlike virtual reality games and apps that need investment in dedicated headsets, augmented reality apps can work on commonly available smartphones and headsets. This paves the way for widespread distribution of AR apps. Consumer adoption of AR has created a thriving market for AR applications across all sectors, from popular social networking apps like SnapChat to product promotion apps like IKEA’s catalogue. Geo-location based augmented reality apps AR technology can be broadly classified into four types : Marker-based AR Marker-less or location based AR Projection based AR Superimposition based AR Most AR apps … [Read more...] about How Geo-location based Augmented Reality Apps work?

Cracker Jack abandons a century of prizes for QR codes and mobile games

April 27, 2016 by robert Leave a Comment

Gen Xers who remember scoring the coveted weather predictor, smearing on a temporary tattoo or throwing out yet another useless magnifying glass today saw another symbol of their childhood annihilated: Cracker Jack is replacing the toy with a QR code for some mobile games. The Toy Surprise has been in every box of Cracker Jack for more than 100 years —€” going back to 1912. But it now gives way to QR codes for baseball themed games, which one accesses after downloading another app, called Blippar, on their iOS or Android mobile device. Oh boy, kid, here's your prize. Yay. The games are "baseball-inspired mobile digital experiences" as Cracker Jack doubles down on its nostalgic ties to the game thanks to a song. The four "experiences" range from a dance cam and a dot race that mimics the ones seen on jumbo screens at ballparks to a set of virtual baseball cards that star the user. No prize though. Haston Lewis, the senior director of marketing for brand owner … [Read more...] about Cracker Jack abandons a century of prizes for QR codes and mobile games
