A new Returnal trailer teases some of the many mysteries you'll discover as you explore the alien world of Atropos. Where the last trailer gave us a crash course on Returnal's third-person shooting combat, this new trailer is all about the planet itself. We follow space explorer Selene as she moves through Atropos, trying to reckon what she's already seen of this strange world with what's before her eyes right now: mysterious broadcasts, artifacts of a seemingly extinct civilization, the same location appearing in two completely different forms. "Everything has changed," Selene says. The trailer introduces the Overgrown Ruins, Derelict Citadel, and Crimson Wastes biomes - with another three listed as "Unknown Biomes" on the side of each title card, so it looks like there's just as much still to discover in the game itself. Each has its own oddities, but the most enigmatic of all may be the farmhouse that appears in the Ruins; Selene's reaction indicates that this is a place … [Read more...] about Returnal trailer tours an alien world where “everything has changed”

Best Shots review – Future State: House of El #1 reframes the Superman legacy as a Game of Thrones-esque slice of cosmic fantasy
Kryptonian civil war rages amongst the descendants of Superman in Future State: Superman: House of El #1 , a double-sized one-shot that pitches the legacy of Superman as a Game of Thrones-esque slice of cosmic fantasy. Future State: Superman - House of El #1 credits Written by Phillip Kennedy Johnson Phillip Kennedy Johnson eschews quiet character in favor of cinematic siege warfare, drawn ably by artist Scott Godlewski. Ronan Kent holds the title of Superman here, backed up by a team that fills out the usual fantasy archetypes with a decidedly Kryptonian spin. Godlewski has fun with the visuals here. Between the Blue Lantern who wears the S as a construct, a mixed-race Kryptonian/Tamaranean and the Red-Son-meets-Warhammer vibes of the Red King, there's loads of eye candy here. Liberally daubed in thematically appropriate blue and red by Gabe Eltaeb, House of El is a slick looking book with a fluid sense of pace. However, there's just too much going on here. … [Read more...] about Best Shots review – Future State: House of El #1 reframes the Superman legacy as a Game of Thrones-esque slice of cosmic fantasy
Bendis’ Justice League will be the ‘central piece’ of the DCU
As part of the 'Infinite Frontier' initiative, longtime partners Brian Michael Bendis and David Marquez are reuniting to take over the ongoing Justice League title. The duo, who have worked on Miles Morales , the Defenders , Iron Man , and Civil War II are reuniting beginning with March 16's Justice League #59 - and using a mix of classic members along with some surprising ones like Hippolyta, newcomer Naomi, and the usually-a-villain Black Adam. Ahead of this new era, Newsarama spoke with Brian Michael Bendis about his Justice League run, adding a character he created to the pantheon of the team, and how this works with the Justice League Dark secondary story in each isue. Newsarama: Brian, to jump right in, what was the decision behind wrapping up Superman to write Justice League? Brian Michael Bendis: I was only supposed to do 25 issues of the Superman books, each one, that was the original run. Then everything kind of stretched a little bit with pandemic … [Read more...] about Bendis’ Justice League will be the ‘central piece’ of the DCU
How Ta-Nehisi Coates’ Black Panther grapples with heroism and monarchy
"You are a good man with a good heart. And it's hard for a good man to be king." So says John Kani's T'Chaka to the late Chadwick Boseman's T'Challa in a powerful scene in the Academy Award-winning film Black Panther . It's a statement that delivers the crux of T'Challa's character arc in the film, not one of learning how to be heroic, but how best to give life to that heroism within the context of governance. Since T'Challa's creation by Jack Kirby and Stan Lee as Marvel's first major Black superhero, that question has always been central to the character, no matter whose authorship he was under. Whether it be Don McGregor and Billy Graham's soliloquizing adventurer in the pages of Jungle Action, Christopher Priest's tortured king wondering if the newest tactics he employed took him over the line into tyranny, Reginald Hudlin's globetrotting monarch navigating through marriage, or serving as a compromised moral compass at the end of everything in Jonathan Hickman's New Avengers, … [Read more...] about How Ta-Nehisi Coates’ Black Panther grapples with heroism and monarchy
Avengers: Infinity War Will Now Be a Single Movie
It has been known for some time that despite being shot back-to-back, the upcoming two-part Avengers: Infinity War would be two separate films . Now Marvel has announced a title change that suggests Infinity War might be a single film, with the second movie being something different. As reported by Variety , the first movie will now simply be called Avengers: Infinity War , and will hit theaters in May 2018. It will be followed by a film currently scheduled as Untitled Avengers , to arrive a year later. Both will be directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, who previously helmed Captain America: The Winter Soldier and this year's hugely successful Captain America: Civil War . Speaking to Yahoo! Movies recently, co-writer Christopher Markus explained that both films were being written simultaneously. "On any given day, you're only working on one but that doesn't mean that next week, you aren't working on the other one," he said. "And certainly, notes are coming in and … [Read more...] about Avengers: Infinity War Will Now Be a Single Movie
