A decade later, in 1979, Star Trek returned. This time, it wasn't a weekly, episodic television series. It was an epic feature film intended for the big screen. Star Trek: The Motion Picture brought back the original Star Trek cast for their biggest adventure ever, with acclaimed director Robert Wise at the helm. Though the film's production was troubled, it managed to bring Star Trek back as fans had never seen it before. Visual effects guru Douglas Trumbull was fresh off of work on 2001: A Space Odyssey when Wise and Paramount Pictures enlisted him to work on Star Trek: The Motion Picture. Following the film's production, Trumbull was hospitalized for exhaustion and ulcers. Fathom Events is bringing Star Trek: The Motion Picture back to theaters for its 40th anniversary, … [Read more...] about Star Trek: VFX Legend Douglas Trumbull Reflects on The Motion Picture 40 Years Later

By JK Schmidt - August 17, 2018 03:20 pm EDT Share 0 Comments 0 A new development occurred in the ongoing saga of Stan Lee's personal life and his issues with former business partner Keya Morgan. The report from Variety indicates a judge granted a new restraining order for Lee against Morgan. Lee's attorney Jonathan Freund appeared in court to make the request, and commissioner Laura Hymowitz approved the order. The judge's order states that Morgan cannot contact Lee or come in within 100 yards of him, and that he is also barred from contacting Lee's daughter, J.C. Lee, and his brother, Larry Lieber. "Stan is doing pretty well," Freund said outside of the courtroom, according to Variety. "He’s working again, and his health is improving. He’s still creating characters." Morgan did not appear in court, and the report indicates this hearing was delayed because Lee's attorneys were unable to locate Morgan to serve him the paperwork. In court, Freund … [Read more...] about Stan Lee’s New Restraining Order Against Keya Morgan Granted
You Died: The Dark Souls Companion is one of the great gaming books of the last few years - it's passionate, perceptive and wonderfully partisan. (We should also mention that it's the work of two friends of Eurogamer, Keza MacDonald and Jason Killingsworth.) Killingsworth is currently running a Kickstarter campaign to produce a beautiful hardback version of the book, which will include a new chapter. He's kindly allowed us to publish this extract as a taster. Dark Souls' most obvious trait also happens to be its least interesting; fixating on 'gosh, this game's hard' seems a bit obvious when we could be talking about its themes, its lore, its fascinating game design. Dark Souls is more than a Tough Mudder challenge for the couch-bound. But Dark Souls' difficulty is also inescapable and, rightly or wrongly, it's what the game is most famous for. Ask players for their recollections, and they will tell you the moments that made them cry, the moments when they felt physically and … [Read more...] about Tough Love: On Dark Souls’ Difficulty

If you want to govern, games have you covered.Politics is about who has power, and how much, and over who. So politics in games can go beyond the simulation of diplomacy and decision-making to also investigate how the balance of power affects the lives of our characters in other genres, whether it's imaginary factions they choose to support or their communities telling them how to live. From Fallout: New Vegas to Life is Strange, the fingerprints of politics are all over games. You'll be able to watch a scene from the upcoming Star Wars Episode 9: Rise of Skywalker within Fortnite next weekend. An exclusive glimpse at the upcoming blockbuster will be shown on the big screen within Fortnite's own Risky Reels drive-in theatre. In-game posters advertising the special event state "Doors open" at 1.30pm Eastern (that's 6.30pm UK time) next Saturday, 14th December. The show itself will start at 2pm EST (7pm UK). Director J.J. Abrams looks also set to make a brief appearance. While bizarre, this is far from the first tie-in between Fortnite and a Disney-owned movie. The old island's Risky Reels played host to a brief clip of Wreck-It Ralph to promote the launch of Ralph Breaks the Internet earlier this year, while Fortnite itself popped up on-screen in Avengers: Endgame. Earlier this month, Fortnite celebrated the release of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order with the launch of a Stormtrooper skin and the arrival of a Star Destroyer over the island. And for those … [Read more...] about Fortnite live event will premiere Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker scene
