After Zack Snyder was given the ability to release his cut of 2017's Justice League on HBO Max, some DC Comics fans were hopeful they'd get to see a new version of 2016's Suicide Squad, which was directed by David Ayer. According to WarnerMedia Studios CEO Ann Sarnoff, though, that doesn't--and won't--exist anytime soon. When asked in an interview with Variety about the possibility of giving Suicide Squad the same treatment as Justice League, Sarnoff simply said, "We won’t be developing David Ayer’s cut." Given that a James Gunn-directed sequel is on the way, debuting in theaters and on HBO Max this year, this isn't too surprising. Still, anyone who's seen the sheer number of deleted scenes on the home release of Ayer's Suicide Squad will know there is quite a bit of story that didn't make it into the final film. In fact, as Ayer himself revealed on Twitter, the critical reception to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice led Warner Bros. to change the tone of the film … [Read more...] about Suicide Squad Won’t Get The Snyder Cut Treatment From Director David Ayer

Disco Elysium, our 2019 Game of the Year , is poised to take its final form this month. More quests, a new location and full voice acting—over a million words—makes it a hefty free update. The response from players, says lead writer Helen Hindpere, is a big part of why the team is returning to Revachol and its amnesiac detective. They embraced the way it dove into challenging subjects, and ZA/UM wants to give them even more. "It seems that, oddly enough, people do like politics in their games—especially when it’s offered as a way to shape your character in a RPG." Politics seeps into every part of Disco Elysium, and your journey through Revachol's ideologies is just as meaningful as the main story, but it doesn't really get its own conclusion. Political vision quests will cap that journey by exploring these ideologies even further, while also putting your dedication to your chosen ideology to the test. "Each vision quest comes to a point where players are encouraged to stop … [Read more...] about Disco Elysium is getting even more political
The hashtag #boycottgenshinimpact is currently trending on Twitter and it appears to be, at least in part, due to questionable depictions of race in the Chinese free-to-play RPG. Now at over 10,000 tweets, the hashtag (and several others including #dobettermihoyo and #boycottgenshin , which have collectively nearly 100,000 tweets) began as a conversation about different criticisms of Genshin Impact's depictions of race, but has more recently devolved into an incoherent mess of different debates. It's not certain what kickstarted the trending hashtag, but one of the central issues has to do with a post made by Twitter user venluvr who shared a snippet of a video created by MiHoYo late last year that tours its offices in Shanghai, China. In that video, there's a shot of an artist working on one of Genshin Impact's main enemies, called hilichurls, while using reference material of what appears to be dancing indigenous Americans. Though just a few seconds long, this clip … [Read more...] about Here’s why ‘boycott Genshin Impact’ is trending on Twitter

Developer Mechanical Head Studios have pulled from the greatest releases of the 8-Bit action platformer genre; a bit of Mega Man, some Battletoads, and the clearest voices are Ninja Gaiden and Shadow of The Ninja. This is not the first authentic recreation of the genre, in recent years we've been treated to Sabotage Studio's The Messenger, Thomas Happ's Axiom Verge, and Yacht Club's Shovel Knight have all recreated the experience with joyful accuracy.
