Images in this article are NSFW. Subverse , a videogame created by a developer you've probably never heard of, passed $1,900,000 raised on Kickstarter on Tuesday, with 24 hours left to go. Unlike the names behind some of Kickstarter's biggest gaming successes—Double Fine, Obsidian, Yu Suzuki—Subverse creator FOW Interactive is only famous in the circle of people who watch CG porn of game characters on Newgrounds. But compare Subverse's haul to the $1.43 million that veteran Myst creators Cyan Worlds were just able to raise for their new game , and it's clear there's a very real, very hungry audience for Mass Effect meets Mass Erect. The Kickstarter page describes Subverse as "a tactical RPG/SHMUP hybrid that takes place in a fully explorable galaxy where you get to be the Captain of your very own ship...which is crewed by the sexiest and deadliest waifus you can recruit." It promises a story, grid-based combat reminiscent of a simplified Shadowrun, and women designed by … [Read more...] about Mass Effect-inspired porn game is now one of the biggest gaming Kickstarters of all time

The making of… Silent Hill: Shattered Memories
F aceless zombies. Nightmarish chases. Nerve-jangling bursts of static. Silent Hill: Shattered Memories made no bones about wanting to terrify you. But the most shocking thing about it wasn’t its monsters. It was the choice of lead platform. Released in December 2009 on Nintendo Wii, Shattered Memories was a bold – some might say foolhardy – attempt to take Silent Hill to a brand-new demographic: casual players. “We thought, this is a chance for us to engage with what is potentially quite a large audience,” remembers Sam Barlow, lead designer at Climax Studios. “The pitch from us was always, ‘How many people own a Wii? How many of those people have enjoyed watching a horror movie or psychological thriller?’ We thought there were quite a lot of people we could sell this game to.” To understand the origin of Shattered Memories, you have to go right back to Silent Hill: Origins on PSP in 2007. It was the game that convinced Konami that the Portsmouth-based studio represented a safe … [Read more...] about The making of… Silent Hill: Shattered Memories
GTA 6 release date, news and rumors
GTA 6 hasn't been officially announced by developer Rockstar, but that hasn't stopped GTA 6 rumors from emerging from the depths of the internet. The latest gossip is that GTA 6 could launch in October 2023 and be set in Miami . That's from a dubious online source though, but additional details from that leak including a single, male protagonist, with the game being set in the 1970s, with a chaptered story like Red Dead Redemption 2 . Combine that with Rockstar teasing fans with the official Rockstar Support account is telling us to "stay tuned" for GTA 6 updates on Twitter and it just keeps getting more exciting. According to a Kotaku report, "a new entry in the Grand Theft Auto series," is early in development as of April 2020. That report also suggested we can expect to see a smaller launch, with the game expanded through updates in the manner of an MMO or GTA Online. The development timing means expecting the game to be a PS5 and Xbox Series X title is a sure … [Read more...] about GTA 6 release date, news and rumors
Home explores the real-life struggles of immigration through the allegory of superpowers
A young man's real-life struggles with immigration and family separation at the US southern borders have inspired a new Image Comics series. Home examines that tragedy, through the lens of superpowers and action comics. Debuting April 14, the five-issue series Home by writer Julio Anta and artist Anna Wieszcyzk examines the "interesting parallels" between the superhero origin story trope and what Anta describes as "the feeling of helplessness and loss of control you might feel as an immigrant in a foreign land." Newsarama spoke with Anta about Home, the real-life events that inspired him to create this story, and how this works as his first professional comic book. Newsarama: Julio, this is not only your first comic at Image Comics, but also your first professional comic ever. What made you want to start your comic book writing career? Julio Anta: The idea for Home is actually what made me want to pursue comic book writing in the first place. Everything I've done in … [Read more...] about Home explores the real-life struggles of immigration through the allegory of superpowers
I spent a surreal night with the Great Gatsby in an interactive Zoom play
We've all collected stories from the past year that will forever remind us of what it was like to live under the shadow of a pandemic. Maybe you experience flashbulb visions of a grocery store picked clean of toilet paper, or your first surreal Zoom happy hour, or another lonely afternoon watching LeBron James pick up a triple-double in front of empty bleachers. Personally, I'll always remember how I spent last Friday evening: Dressed like I had someplace to go for the first time in 12 months, watching a sauced sextet of 1920s socialites vie for my attention. The company is called Seize The Show ; they bill themselves as a fully immersive virtual theater troupe, and they started running productions in 2020 while the rest of the live performance industry was indefinitely suspended. Sign up for a timeslot, and Seize The Show sends over a Zoom link that you casually open like you're settling into a creaky theater seat. Tonight's production is called That Night At Gatsby's, and … [Read more...] about I spent a surreal night with the Great Gatsby in an interactive Zoom play
