Steam’s latest Game Festival features 500 playable demos, starts Wednesday

Valve has announced the return of its increasingly regular Steam Game Festival next week, bringing with it 500 playable demos, developer livestreams, and more. This fifth outing for Valve's indie-focussed Game Festival event is scheduled to begin Wednesday, 3rd February, at 6pm in the UK (that's 10am PT), and the festivities cease one week later, on Tuesday, 9th February, at the same time. With 500 playable demos available for the duration of the event, it's a wonderful, if rather intimidating, proposition for those that like to dig around in search of undiscovered gems. And Valve has notably avoided using the words "limited-time" on its Game Festival promo page this time around, so I'm hoping most of these demos will be sticking around after the event to give people a fighting change of working through the most intriguing ones. Alongside the demos, Valve will once again be promoting a schedule of developer live-streams and chats, although full details of these have yet to go … [Read more...] about Steam’s latest Game Festival features 500 playable demos, starts Wednesday

Little Nightmares series could be over, as developer Tarsier shifts to new IP

The Little Nightmares series is potentially over, as developer Tarsier will focus on creating a new IP. Tarsier's parent company, Embracer Group, said as much today in an earnings report (as first reported by IGN ). "Now, having that game created, they will move over to create new IPs," Embracer group CEO Lars Wingefors said of the Tarsier launching Little Nightmares 2. "Tarsier studios will, from now on, focus on creating new IPs," reads the earnings report itself. Embracer Group acquired Tarsier Studios back in December 2019, but the Little Nightmares IP remains the property of publisher Bandai Namco. It's entirely possible that the Little Nightmares IP could be given to a new studio under Bandai Namco, but from the comments made by Embracer Group, it would certainly seem as though Tarsier is moving away from developing further entries in the Little Nightmares series. Little Nightmares 2 launched just last week, and we awarded the horror sequel from Tarsier a 4/5, … [Read more...] about Little Nightmares series could be over, as developer Tarsier shifts to new IP

AMD is analyzing USB disconnect issue in 500-series motherboards

AMD is looking into a USB issue with 500-series motherboard chipsets it says only a "small number of users are experiencing". Over on the AMD subreddit, an official account posted that AMD is aware and investigating the root cause of a USB disconnection problem and is actively seeking help from the community in collecting further information. The issue is said to arise when users plug devices into certain USB ports, or combinations of such. This can lead to disconnections and devices being unrecognised. There are two 500-series chipsets available today: X570 and B550, and the issue is said to occur across both. AMD recommends that users submit a support ticket if they are experiencing the issue. An Update on USB connectivity with 500 Series Chipset Motherboards from r/Amd It's not an issue we've run into yet, and I'm running an X570 AMD Ryzen system as my daily machine, but it does appear to be more than a localised case. Many users on Reddit are reporting their … [Read more...] about AMD is analyzing USB disconnect issue in 500-series motherboards

Valheim Exceeds 500,000 Concurrent Players On Steam

The latest gaming sensation, the multiplayer survival game Valheim , continues to grow in popularity. The game just recently surpassed 500,000 concurrent players on Steam, which makes it among the platform's most popular games ever. Only Dota 2 (619,000) and CS: GO (1 million) had higher peak concurrent player numbers for February 22, but those games are free-to-play whereas Valheim is a paid game. These numbers came directly from Steam's own public data and statistics page . According to IGN , Valheim now holds the record for most concurrent players on Steam for a survival game and the fifth-most concurrent players for any game on the platform of all time. Only CS: GO, PUBG, Dota 2, and Cyberpunk 2077 have reportedly had more concurrent players. Developer Iron Gate--a team of five people--announced just recently that Valheim had reached 3 million copies sold , up from 2 million just days earlier. Signs like extremely high concurrent player numbers point to even greater … [Read more...] about Valheim Exceeds 500,000 Concurrent Players On Steam
