Best Shots review – Captain Marvel: Marvels Snapshot leaves a lot to be desired
Superheroes are supposed to be characters that kids can look up to and be inspired by. The newest one-shot in the Marvels Snapshots line attempts to tell such a tale using both Captain Marvel and Ms. Marvel. However, the execution of the story here leaves a lot to be desired. Captain Marvel: Marvels Snapshots #1 credits Written by Mark Waid Written by Mark Waid, with artwork by Claire Roe and Mike Spicer, Captain Marvel: Marvels Snapshot #1 centers around a teenager named Jenni, who is going through some rough times with their mom. After an intense argument where Jenni is grounded, the teenager spots an incident going off in the distance and goes to investigate. Jenni discovers the Avengers fighting off an alien invasion and ends up meeting Ms. Marvel and Captain Marvel because of it. Most of the issue features an internal monologue from Jenni, and while some captions help build the character out, there are also some real duds, such as Jenni remarking, "There … [Read more...] about Best Shots review – Captain Marvel: Marvels Snapshot leaves a lot to be desired
Best Shots review: Batman/Superman #2 injects a dose of body horror into Future State
Gene Luen Yang injects a dose of body horror into the Magistrate's early days in Future State: Batman/Superman #2 , a grotesque and bitter conclusion to the World's Finest's first 'Future State' adventure. Although Yang's script does not quite relish as much in the camaraderie between Bruce and Clark, a horrifying new incarnation of Professor Pyg ensures that this second issue is satisfying in an altogether different manner. Future State: Batman/Superman #2 credits Written by Gene Luen Yang Script-wise, Yang neatly concludes his story of mutant henchmen, giving lots of room in the sandbox for anyone else interested in going back to these early days of 'Future State' Gotham. Still, there's missed opportunity here, as we've entirely dropped the Magistrate's slow intrusion on everyday securities that proved so compelling at the beginning of Future State: Batman/Superman #1 . Although the super-powered stuff is well-executed, its impact on the average citizen was a real … [Read more...] about Best Shots review: Batman/Superman #2 injects a dose of body horror into Future State

The movie follows a boy called Gunner (played by This is Us actor Lonnie Chavis) who sets out on a quest to save his ill mother (Rosario Dawson). He joins forces with a mysterious local girl (Amiah Miller) to go in search of the Water Man, a mythical figure who holds the key to immortality. However, their journey soon becomes dangerous, and their only hope for rescue is Gunner’s father (Oyelowo). Alfred Molina and Maria Bello also star. “While in some ways this film is a father and son story, at its core it’s also a love letter to mothers everywhere and is dedicated to my own,” Oyelowo said in a statement. The movie premiered at Toronto International Film Festival in 2020. At the time, Oyelowo told Variety : “The film is partly inspired by [the] films I grew up loving, like E.T. WandaVision: Who Is Agatha Harkness And Why Does She Matter?
In WandaVision Episode 7, we learned a shocking (or not-so-shocking, depending on how deeply embroiled in fan theories you've been since the show's premiere) truth about Kathryn Hahn's Agnes. Surprise! She's actually been Agatha Harkness all along, and she even gets her very own theme song to prove it. But, like many things in WandaVision, this reveal only served to raise more questions than it answered--namely: Who the hell is Agatha Harkness and why does she matter in Wanda's story? And naturally, while this is still very much a mystery for the MCU, we can look to Agatha's bizarre comic book history for clues. Agatha Harkness was first introduced in Fantastic Four #94 back in 1970, but before you break out the red string and start connecting dots on your MCU F4 conspiracy walls just yet, know that her role with the first family of Marvel was a little odd. Rather than existing as a villain for anyone in the Richards family, Agatha was a governess--a fancy nanny--to Reed and Sue's … [Read more...] about WandaVision: Who Is Agatha Harkness And Why Does She Matter?
