Andy Chalk: The Temple of Trials in Fallout 2. Basically you're given a stick and thrown naked into a cave complex filled with giant ants and scorpions, and you have to fight your way through it in order to prove you've got the stones to actually play the damn game. The whole thing sucks, it's a plodding, grinding, save-scumming pain in the ass, and it's got nothing to do with the story—it's an entirely separate tutorial-slash-torture chamber that has no connection to anything. But if you want to play Fallout 2 then you have to power through it. This is the main reason I have never successfully replayed Fallout 2. … [Read more...] about Which game has the most brutal beginning?

Cyberpunk 2077 Update Patch 1.1 Now Live, Might Include Its Own Bugs
CD Projekt Red said that it is continuing to work on Patch 1.2 and "other upcoming updates," while also listening to feedback and fixing any bugs Cyberpunk 2077 players may encounter. It's unclear how many updates CD Projekt Red is currently hammering away on for Cyberpunk 2077, but the game's free DLC should be available sometime later this year. As for its multiplayer mode, the studio confirmed that it wouldn't come out until at least 2022. This mode will apparently be more like a standalone game than a separate mode. Earlier rumors and reports suggested a heist mode could be part of this multiplayer experience. … [Read more...] about Cyberpunk 2077 Update Patch 1.1 Now Live, Might Include Its Own Bugs
PS5 Resident Evil Village Maiden demo helps fans piece together the tall vampire lady’s backstory
An image in the castle subsection of the Resident Evil Village website shows four houses: House Dimitrescu, House Heisenberg, House Beneviento and House Moreau. We know about House Dimitrescu, and we've heard reference to Heisenberg. What are the other two houses? How are they all connected? Is Mother Miranda the ultimate boss of the lot? And is that the Umbrella logo in the middle? If so, what does that signify? … [Read more...] about PS5 Resident Evil Village Maiden demo helps fans piece together the tall vampire lady’s backstory
I can’t stop watching the spookily efficient assassinations of Hitman speedrunners
Quickly placing rubber duck explosives, silently poking targets with lethal syringes, and shooting targets from unbelievable distances—these runners have some slick moves. I knew I would enjoy watching these videos when I saw speedrunner Elajjaz complete The Finish Line mission in Hitman 2 by leaning over a roof edge and shooting the target, who is a racer driving at 300 mph, through the windscreen from 100 feet away with a pistol (you can watch in the video linked below at 4:41). … [Read more...] about I can’t stop watching the spookily efficient assassinations of Hitman speedrunners
Spelunky 2 mod Overlunky lets you zoom out and blow up every level
As much as I like easy money and blowing everything up, it’s the ability to zoom out that I’ve played around with the most. Spelunky 2 plays on the limits of your vision, with traps that can be triggered while still off-screen, or easy-to-miss objects or doors you can find yourself urgently backtracking to find. Being able to zoom out changes all that. It doesn’t erase the game’s challenge, but it changes how you make decisions when you know there’s turkeys ahead, or lava to the right, or a really good shop near the exit. It’s been enough to freshen up an experience that, for me, had grown stale after 150 hours. … [Read more...] about Spelunky 2 mod Overlunky lets you zoom out and blow up every level
