Microsoft has started a new scheme where it wants you, the gamers, to share ideas on how to improve the gaming experience on Windows 10. Apparently, Microsoft intends to improve gaming on its Windows 10 platform. You can check out the Gaming on Windows 10 page, started by Team Xbox to see some of the most popular ideas and to submit your own. Do note that you will need to share your email address before you can vote or add new ideas. Alternatively, you can use your Facebook or Google account. Microsoft wants your opinions to improve gaming on Windows 10
Microsoft’s Team Xbox has a query for those of you running Windows 10: How can they make it better? They’ve set up a site on Xbox Ideas, a virtual suggestion box if you will, for you to pose your questions, comments, concerns, and suggestions to them about the future of gaming on Windows. Specifically, they’re interested in three things: What you want Windows to do, or stop doing, while you’re playing a game, what you want Windows to optimize for your gaming, and what new features Windows needs for gaming. As of this posting, a few days after the site went live, some of the top ideas are pretty intriguing. Some players want Windows to automatically disable processes that aren’t necessary for running a game once a game is started, or to allow background processes to be selectively disabled for increased performance. Another distinctive group are focused on peripherals, suggesting controller support to launch games from the desktop or more deeply … [Read more...] about Microsoft wants your opinions to improve gaming on Windows 10
Microsoft is training Windows 10 to be smarter about when it updates your PC
Have you ever stepped away from your PC only to return and find it in the middle of an update? Such is the bane of forced updates on Windows 10. They're not disappearing, but Microsoft is employing machine learning to train Windows 10 not to update itself at inopportune times. The new feature is being tested in the latest preview builds to Windows Insiders—build 17723 for those subscribed to the Fast ring and build 18204 who have opted in to Skip Ahead. Both builds feature a predictive model aimed at accurately predicting when it might be a good time to restart your PC."Have you ever had to stop what you were doing, or wait for your computer to boot up because the device updated at the wrong time? We heard you, and to alleviate this pain, if you have an update pending we’ve updated our reboot logic to use a new system that is more adaptive and proactive," Microsoft explains. The new predictive model goes further than before—not only will it check if you are currently … [Read more...] about Microsoft is training Windows 10 to be smarter about when it updates your PC
Xbox app for Windows 10 will be ‘more reflective of PC community’ after rework
It's telling that when mentioned in our work chat this afternoon, some of the PCG team had forgotten the Xbox app for Windows 10 existed. Designed to bridge the gap between consoles and desktops—by way of Xbox party chat, streaming features, and game management among other things—the application leaves something to be desired. As reported by The Verge, Phil Spencer has now admitted this, and says Microsoft is "reworking" how it thinks about its PC audience. In response to an audience member during his Gaming For Everyone panel at E3, Spencer said: "I'd say our early work in [our] Xbox Live stuff for Windows was well intentioned, but anybody that’s a PC gamer (I play a lot of PC games myself) saw this kind of imposter console work coming over."You could see that some of the people making decisions there and some of our early efforts were really more console-to-PC than respecting the PC audience and the things that they were looking for. You’ve probably seen … [Read more...] about Xbox app for Windows 10 will be ‘more reflective of PC community’ after rework
A last-minute bug is likely why Windows 10’s Spring Creators Update isn’t out yet
Spring is already here, but the Spring Creators Update for Windows 10 is not, even though it was expected to release yesterday. Technically it's not delayed, because Microsoft never officially announced a release date. Unofficially however, the reason you're not seeing it yet might be because of a bug.Citing an unnamed source, Windows Central says Microsoft discovered a "blocking bug" right at the last minute. It's not clear what exactly the bug might have been doing, but it had enough of an impact that Microsoft decided to hit the abort button right as the Spring Creators Update was getting ready to launch. It's apparently rare to find a show-stopping bug in the 11th hour. In this case, the Spring Creators Update had undergone significant testing internally at Microsoft and by users participating in the Windows Insider program. Major releases like this one go through all kinds of tweaking and validation along the way, and by the time it's finished enough to start making its way to … [Read more...] about A last-minute bug is likely why Windows 10’s Spring Creators Update isn’t out yet
