Wearing a simple black hoodie, olive green capris, and a beanie, Yoko Taro is, to put it bluntly, a bit underwhelming in person. Sitting across from him in a hotel meeting room at PAX East 2018, I find it somewhat hard to believe this is the same eccentric, mask-wearing creative behind games like the Drakengard series, Nier, and Nier: Automata. But I soon discover that this, too, is a sort of disguise - whereas Taro's literal mask suggests a larger-than-life persona hiding behind it thanks to cartoonish proportions and wicked grin, here is a mask of unassuming plainness.Neither seem fully accurate to the man himself, who is soft-spoken and sometimes short on words, but is also clearly inquisitive and deeply invested in emotions and the expression thereof. He exudes an aura of earnestness, even vulnerability - a rarity in an industry dominated by spectacle, hype marketing, and spokespeople expertly trained to answer any questions, just so long as they don't actually answer any … [Read more...] about “I don’t think I’ll have a happy ending” – Nier: Automata director Yoko Taro talks expectations and our secret selves
N64 neon genesis evangelion
A Zelda fan has created an impressive The Legend of Zelda demake video - and it takes the upcoming Breath of the Wild 2 right back to 1999.Modeler and animator The Regressor took Nintendo's Breath of the Wild sequel trailer it showcased during E3 in June and "demade" it - that is, recreated it using N64-style graphics, with era-perfect audio from Vince94.The video is beat for beat the same as Nintendo's creepy original, which, for reference, is here. And here's The Regressor's demake, which for any N64 fan will tug on those nostalgia heartstrings (watch out for the bit with the N64 controller buttons on the top-right of the screen). The Regressor, who created all the 3D assets from scratch using Maya 2009 and Photoshop, explained: "The quality is supposed to be 'bad': if it looks like a flaw or error, it was likely 100 per cent intentional and either left in or put in on purpose. My goal was not to replicate Ocarina or Majora's Mask visuals exactly or be 100 per cent technically … [Read more...] about The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 for N64 is not in development
Home • PC Game Reviews • Fallout 4 • 63 Blunderdome Joe Donnelly Contributor 14th April 2016 / 5:00PM Wasteland Workshop is the second serving of Fallout 4 [official site] DLC that offers players new settlement items, crafting options, and the chance to capture wild creatures before pitting them against one another in purpose-built arenas. Beyond that, there’s not much else to it, no quests, no story, which is a fact reflected by its modest £3.99/$4.99 price tag. But is it worth your time? Here’s Wot I Think. When Bethesda first announced Wasteland Workshop a couple of months back, it was certainly the least auspicious of Fallout 4’s planned trio of expansions scheduled for release in the first half of the year. Against its more wholesome-sounding counterparts, the add on’s budget price and relatively bland title appeared to portray something not only quite basic, but also something a number of the game’s existing … [Read more...] about Wot I Think: Fallout 4 – Wasteland Workshop
Home • 89 Well? Alice O'Connor News Editor 7th December 2019 / 9:00AM We’ve started opening the doors of the RPS Advent Calendar, revealing our favourite games of the year. We also declared our fifty favourite PC games of the decade. Each is missing things I’d like to see (and I already voted tactically to jam in some niche favourites) but ah, that’s a lot of good video games there. And I am glad to be getting back to writing news rather than ‘assessments’ or ‘analysis’ or ‘critique’ or whatever this feature business is. Doesn’t feel right. What are you playing this weekend? Here’s what we’re clicking on! Alice Bee I have progressed in The Star War so now I have all my force powers and a second lightsaber blade! Also, I have a black and neon pink paint job for the robit, and some sort of fox rabbit pet on my ship. So, 10/10 Also the level design is pretty good and whatever, I guess? Alice … [Read more...] about What are we all playing this weekend?
Home • 101 The fat lady sings John Walker Prisoner 18th November 2019 / 10:27AM This is, really and truly, the last ever Steam Charts. Which, I realise, is something I’ve said before. More than once. But this time it’s really true! Erk, I’m not really sure how to convince anyone of this. I’m the boy who cried last ever Steam Charts. When I took this column over from Alec (RPS in peace) two and a half years ago, my ethos was this: be stupid. It’s only a coincidence that this also happens to coincide with my ethos for every other aspect of my life. I’m kind of pleased with quite how utterly stupid a place it eventually reached, not just in the words I wrote, but that RPS kept paying me £200 a week even when I made it about octopuses. But as my grandmother used to say, all stupid things must come to an end, and after the complete bastards at Valve flicked some switch to stop this dumb-ass article bringing in colossal traffic … [Read more...] about Steam Charts: Put Out Of Its Misery Edition
