When I was elected president of Sordland, a mid-sized Cold War republic in Suzerain 's pastiche of Eastern Europe, my goals were simple. I wanted to rewrite the country's undemocratic constitution, revolutionize education and healthcare, prevent a war with our northern neighbors, and break the power of the fat cat oligarchs profiting from the suffering of my people. And I was going to do it all with no corruption, no dishonesty, and no authoritarian violence. I died several decades later in a maximum security prison off the coast of Antel, having been impeached and framed for high crimes against the state before my first term ended. As Anton Rayne, the fourth president of Sordland, Suzerain puts a lot on your plate. Through a combination of a choose-your-own-adventure-style visual novel and a Paradox-esque, map-based resource management game, you have to pull the young republic out of a terrible recession while dealing with entrenched, corrupt political factions and a looming … [Read more...] about I tried to be a good leader in Suzerain and was sentenced to life in prison
Quick schooling for good paying jobs
Multinational toy corporation Hasbro has announced it's creating a new role for a Nerf Chief TikTok Officer, a marketing role that's been recently and nonchalantly listed on the company's job board . The job description, posted by "Desperate Millennials trying to appeal to Gen Z" strikes an interesting tone that can only be described as "we, The Olds, are running the asylum--please help!" That characterization may seem like somewhat of an exaggeration, but check out the accompanying video also announcing the role below and see for yourself. "We are looking for a creator who is a Nerf enthusiast, a TikTok extraordinaire, has good comedic timing, and knows how to use a ring light," the listing reads. According to a release accompanying all this fanfare, applicants for the role--which will pay $10,000 a month for up to three months "to help develop strategy"--are advised to apply at the link above, and also follow the official Nerf TikTok account, and to "post their best … [Read more...] about Hasbro Will Pay You $10k A Month To Make Nerf TikTok Videos
Team 5 has been making bold moves over the past year. Hearthstone got a new class for the first time, regular Battlegrounds updates have bolstered the new mode's explosive growth, and we also got a completely reworked reward system, which, uh, didn't go so well. Last November, Blizzard binned the game's outdated rewards system for a seasonal model that followed the battle pass formula of many live games. The launch was messy to say the least, and the community was quick to voice its concerns about how rewarding the new system actually was. Following a major overhaul that fixed the most egregious issues, we're in a much better spot as we near the end of the Year of the Phoenix. Which makes this a good time to reflect on the current pass and look ahead to the goodies in the new one . Off the bat, I'm feeling optimistic about the Year of the Gryphon. Ben "Ridiculous Hat" Goodman did an excellent job of outlining why players were so angry about the season pass initially, so … [Read more...] about After a disastrous start, Hearthstone’s rewards track is actually pretty good now
Shinji Mikami is a very likeable guy who is not afraid to speak his mind. For a start, he says, the Resident Evil title is a "stupid" one. The Western title for his made-in-Japan horror epic is, he reckons, completely nonsensical. (Capcom America proposed the Anglicised term; Mikami had no say in its selection.) Biohazard, the series' original Japanese title, is the only term he will use as we discuss the games. And that's fair enough: after all, he is the creator of Resi– sorry, Biohazard. "Biohazard's starting point came when my boss at the time – Fujiwara-san [Tokuro Fujiwara, Capcom's general manager] – told me to make a horror title using the game system of Sweet Home," Mikami explains. The game he's referring to here was a minor hit for Capcom on Nintendo's Famicom at the end of 1989, itself a video game adaptation of a Japanese horror flick. The parallels between Sweet Home and Biohazard are fairly extensive – Biohazard's door-opening sequences are inspired by Sweet Home, … [Read more...] about Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami on the making of a horror classic: “one by one staff would resign from the job”
