How ubiquitous is Disney? They can make high-budget films inspired by their decades-old theme park rides, and no one even bats an eye. When Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of The Black Pearl released in 2003 the conventional wisdom was that pirate movies, let alone one based on a 1967 boat ride, were box office poison. A $4.5 billion combined gross dispelled that notion.Disney has established the formula for making this unlikely sort of adaptation work: Keep things light and fast paced, throw in enough Easter Eggs to please the die-hards, and cast an A-List actor to anchor it. But still, no ride-based movie has ever been as successful as Pirates. The Haunted Mansion, Tomorrowland, Mission to Mars, and The Country Bears all underperformed. Could the latest attempted ride adaptation, Jungle Cruise, succeed where those movies failed? Here is everything we know about Jungle Cruise so far.Jungle Cruise movie release dateJungle Cruise will release in the United States on July 30, 2021. Borderlands Legends preview – hands-on with the iOS top down shooter
Vault hunters? Check. Mutants and monsters? Lots of 'em. Guns? More than you've imagined in your wildest boomstick fantasies. Borderlands Legends has all of the components that ultimately make Borderlands so gosh darn endearing. Almost. For starters, the next expedition to Pandora won't occur on on your console or PC: This is a top down action shooter for iOS, which launches on October 31 for $4.99 on the iPhone and $6.99 on iPad. Legends pits the original four vault hunters--Mordecai, Lilith, Brick, and Roland--against seemingly endless waves of enemies. Legends takes place between the first Borderlands and the second, but there's not much here in terms of story. Whether or not that will end up affecting the game's long-term appeal remains to be seen--but if our demo was any indication, there's still plenty of shooting and looting in store. Each randomly generated mission starts off simple enough, as small numbers of gun-toting jerks come at your four individually controlled … [Read more...] about Borderlands Legends preview – hands-on with the iOS top down shooter
Earth Analog, a space exploration sim inspired by Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar, is out now
Released on Steam today, Earth Analog sees you, a lone space pilot, flying to the Proxima Centauri system to search for a habitable new planet for humanity to call home—as well as a previous expedition that mysteriously disappeared. It's a singleplayer space sim with a Newtonian flight model, relaying an eerie, twisting story as you explore this distant galaxy. "Ever since the day I watched Interstellar I wanted to create a space sim game that captures that sense of mystery and excitement," says creator Roy van Ophuizen, who spent three years making the game. "When I discovered the innovative render technique called ray marching and learned how that could be used to display real-time fractal worlds I knew that my dream could become reality." The screenshot above is an example of the weird, abstract planets generated by this rendering technique. Earth Analog features a mix of hand-crafted and procedurally generated planets and stars, and the game really nails the feeling of … [Read more...] about Earth Analog, a space exploration sim inspired by Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar, is out now
