Killer Instinct launched with the Xbox One in 2013, but it's continuing to evolve and add new content into 2016, Microsoft announced as part of its Gamescom 2015 press conference. Season 3 will begin in March 2016, and though Microsoft was shy about details, it was revealed that the game will begin to incorporate guest characters from other video game franchises. First in line: Rash from Battletoads. The anthropomorphic amphibian is available for preview starting today, though it was unclear exactly how players will access him. Microsoft specified that "Rare Replay players" would be able to play him, though anything beyond that is a mystery. Still, that's not one but two games featuring Battletoads for Xbox within the span of a year. Are you overdosing on nostalgia yet? Squadron Supreme: The complicated Marvel history of the stars of Heroes Reborn 2021
This summer, Marvel is revisiting the branding of its somewhat infamous, but massively impactful Heroes Reborn , a 1996 event of sorts that sent the Avengers and Fantastic Four to their own world away from heroes like Spider-Man and the X-Men. Even though the new Heroes Reborn arises from the current Avengers story arc 'Enter the Phoenix,' and Earth's Mightiest Heroes are conceptually central to the event, it's not the Avengers that will be "reborn" this time. In the world of Heroes Reborn 2021, where the Avengers never formed, the heroes who will be revamped and recast in the new reality as Earth's Mightiest Heroes of a sort are the Squadron Supreme, a team of superheroes (or occasionally villains) who are meant to resemble characters from DC's Justice League. Created in the '60s as a somewhat tongue-in-cheek way to have the Avengers and the Justice League fight, the Squadron Supreme has since evolved into a team all its own – and spawned a Marvel (and DC) tradition of … [Read more...] about Squadron Supreme: The complicated Marvel history of the stars of Heroes Reborn 2021

Astrologaster review – an Elizabethan comedy for the ages
An unusual setup, interesting characters and tongue-in-cheek writing make Astrologaster one of the most fun visual novels around. I've been shouting about Astrologaster since 2019, when a build appeared in my inbox one day, and yet I still don't know exactly how to classify it. I'm loathe to call it a visual novel even if, mechanically speaking, the shoe fits - you mostly listen to conversations between two people, and make a few decisions to move the story forward. But we often think about genres in certain terms, and to my mind a visual novel usually bestows its player with greater control, and a greater urgency to achieve a specific goal - "I have to catch the killer!" "I have to make this person like me!" By comparison, Astrologaster really doesn't care about you all that much. If I have to call it anything, I want to call it a play, set in 1592. It takes place on a stage, with characters in a scene standing on marks, the city background like something crafted from wood … [Read more...] about Astrologaster review – an Elizabethan comedy for the ages
