Astrologaster review – an Elizabethan comedy for the ages
An unusual setup, interesting characters and tongue-in-cheek writing make Astrologaster one of the most fun visual novels around. I've been shouting about Astrologaster since 2019, when a build appeared in my inbox one day, and yet I still don't know exactly how to classify it. I'm loathe to call it a visual novel even if, mechanically speaking, the shoe fits - you mostly listen to conversations between two people, and make a few decisions to move the story forward. But we often think about genres in certain terms, and to my mind a visual novel usually bestows its player with greater control, and a greater urgency to achieve a specific goal - "I have to catch the killer!" "I have to make this person like me!" By comparison, Astrologaster really doesn't care about you all that much. If I have to call it anything, I want to call it a play, set in 1592. It takes place on a stage, with characters in a scene standing on marks, the city background like something crafted from wood … [Read more...] about Astrologaster review – an Elizabethan comedy for the ages
Who is Taskmaster and what are his powers?
One of Marvel's next big screen villains is also one of the most mysterious adversaries in Marvel Comics - the Taskmaster, a villain who uses his ability to mimic the moves and fighting styles of anyone he sees to train villains and henchman in combat. While there are still numerous questions about Taskmaster's place in the MCU when he's introduced in the upcoming Black Widow movie , his Marvel Comics origins are almost just as obscure, with even his secret identity in question. Though he's occasionally used his formidable … [Read more...] about Who is Taskmaster and what are his powers?
Shang-Chi fights the Marvel Universe before his movie debut
Following last year's limited series that focused on Marvel's Master of Kung Fu Shang-Chi and his family in the Five Weapons Society – a group of warriors with ties to special weapons – writer Gene Luen Yang and artist Dike Ruan will reunite for a new Shang-Chi ongoing series. The new series, simply titled Shang-Chi, focuses on the eponymous hero's quest to turn the sometimes villainous Five Weapons Society into heroes – and it will put him at odds with the larger Marvel Universe. "After the events of his latest series, Shang-Chi has finally taken his place as the leader of the Five Weapons Society, but using an evil secret organization as a force for good won't be easy," reads Marvel's official description of the new Shang-Chi title. "And it's about to get a lot harder when Shang-Chi's fellow superheroes from Spider-Man to the X-Men to the Avengers, start to question his motives!" it continues. "Don't miss what happens when Shang-Chi and his newfound family of warriors … [Read more...] about Shang-Chi fights the Marvel Universe before his movie debut

But it's the '96 event in name only. The 2021 version is more like 'Heroes Unborn' - i.e. in this alternate reality the Avengers never formed and were more or less replaced by the Squadron Supreme . The Squadron, who are essentially analogs of DC's Justice League, bring with them a bunch of other elements that should remind readers of DC characters and concepts. Writer Dan Slott apparently has huge plans to celebrate Fantastic Four's 60th … [Read more...] about Upcoming Marvel Comics May 2021 revealed: Heroes Reborn launches
