Surprise sequel Oxenfree 2: Lost Signals picks up 5 years after the first game
Oxenfree 2: Lost Signals is coming to Nintendo Switch and PC this year, as developer Night School Studio announced at today's Nintendo Indie World showcase. "Five years after the events of Oxenfree, Riley returns to her hometown of Camena to investigate mysterious radio signals," the game's newly minted Steam page reads. "What she finds is more than she bargained for." In a tweet , Nintendo of America described the sequel as "a supernatural coming of age story" where you "communicate with other-worldly entities." Yeah, that sounds about right. The original Oxenfree was actually released just over five years ago, and it seems the in-game story has kept up with the times. It made waves in the adventure game community upon release and even managed to attract other fans as a standout supernatural thriller. Without wishing to spoil, you basically open a ghost rift and everything goes to hell in a handbasket. At first blush, Oxenfree 2: Lost Signals seems to be following … [Read more...] about Surprise sequel Oxenfree 2: Lost Signals picks up 5 years after the first game
Oxenfree 2: Lost Signals announced
The wonderfully creepy narrative adventure Oxenfree is getting a sequel, developer Night School Studio has announced. Oxenfree 2: Lost Signals was announced during this evening's Nintendo Indie Direct, and it'll launch for Switch in 2021 (and presumably other platforms too). Oxenfree 2's announcement comes a welcome surprise - it's been five years since the original Oxenfree launched and its developer has since been busy with other projects, such as its drunk-in-hell adventure Afterparty and a Mr Robot spin-off . More to the point - without spoiling anything - the original Oxenfree offered multiple ending paths depending on your choices throughout the game. It'll be interesting to see which (if any) story elements might reappear. This sequel is also set five years after the original Oxenfree, and stars new character Riley, an environmental researcher. She returns to her hometown of Camena to investigate - you guessed it - mysterious radio signals. "Words cannot begin to … [Read more...] about Oxenfree 2: Lost Signals announced

Oxenfree is finally getting a sequel, coming this fall
Oxenfree is a supernatural adventure about a group of teenagers who disturb an ancient, mysterious force on a remote island. It's a cliche setup for sure, but the game makes great use of it—we called Oxenfree "a beautiful story-driven adventure game with a compelling story and great characters, set on an island filled with intriguing mysteries" when it came out in early 2016. Later this year, we'll finally get a sequel. Announced during today's Nintendo Indie World Showcase, Oxenfree 2: Lost Signals will take place five years after the first game and feature an all-new cast headed by Riley, an environmental researcher who returns to her hometown to investigate mysterious radio signals causing electronic disturbances. Naturally—inevitably—"ghostly happenings" follow. Developer Night School Studio said the new game’s “naturalistic dialogue system” will enable players to “shape their experiences in personal and profound ways.” That sounds like fairly conventional marketing … [Read more...] about Oxenfree is finally getting a sequel, coming this fall
