But the movie. Is it any good? Well, yes actually, it is. Our largely positive Assassin’s Creed movie review isn’t wrong when it says it suffers from script issues, but this level of exposition was always going to clunk like a hidden blade in a washing machine, whether it fell out of Marion Cotillard’s mouth or not. Where the Assassin’s Creed movie excels is exactly where you’d expect it to; the past. This is a franchise that’s always taken great delight in throwing you into history. You’ve crept around the dusty rafters of Notre Dame, clambered up a sun-drenched St Mark’s Basilica and taken in the view from Big Ben’s Elizabeth Tower - I can see my house from here. Now it’s time to take a trip to the previously unexplored Spanish Inquisition where director Justin Kurzel actually gets to ignore the story we’ve all been ignoring for years and just get to down to the business of freerunning, stabbing and hunting for Apples … [Read more...] about The Assassin’s Creed movie is getting bad reviews, but does it matter if you love the games?

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is getting something of a fresh start with the Phase 4 slate, now that the Infinity Saga is over, and Avengers: Endgame has cleared some major heroes off the game board. Phase 4 will also see the MCU officially spread its storyline across both TV and movie platforms, and it's quickly becoming apparent that WandaVision is going to be one of the most pivotal entries in the lineup. The marketing machine behind Marvel's upcoming Black Widow movie has prompted a sighting of the first theater standee. A photo seeing Natasha Romanoff in six-foot-tall, cardboard cut out form is making the rounds on social media as the hype for the film continues to rise. The standee is simple, it's Natasha wielding her batons while wearing her latest costume (although, technically, this costume came before those seen in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame) and standing in front of a Black Widow symbol. The symbol behind her seems to have a red glow to it. … [Read more...] about Marvel’s Black Widow: First Theater Standee Revealed
In said mag, for ten years I wrote a budget section called They’re Back, which was internationally recognised as the most in-depth, well researched and ruthlessly objective supplier of reviews in the industry. And yet despite this, in October 2003 Richard Cobbett had the temerity to suggest that one of the thousands of reviews written was incorrect. He was perturbed, to put it accurately, that I had given Zork: Grand Inquisitor 40% and dismissed it as woefully out of date and overpriced at £5. Determined after last week’s loss to score a point back against him, I thought I would finally put that one to rest too, and return to Zork (fnarr) to prove myself right. … [Read more...] about Zork: Grand Inquisitor is the only pre-rendered, FMV game that should ever have been allowed
