Not only was the first trailer for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker released at Star Wars Celebration in Chicago, but that trailer had a stunning reveal by way of a distinctive, haunting cackle at the trailer's end. Emperor Palpatine is back, something confirmed by director J.J. Abrams himself. The reveal that Emperor Palpatine is still alive -- or somehow otherwise around in a meaningful way -- has prompted fans to figure out exactly how that's possible. After all, Darth Vader chucks the Emperor into the Death Star's reactor and killing him in Return of the Jedi after the Emperor tortured Luke with Force lightning. The franchise has a long history of comic book tie-ins, with the original film relying on those series to build excitement for an unknown narrative. In following years, many fans took to the pages of comics for the continued adventures of familiar characters, in addition to learning more about extended corners of the galaxy. The current Star Wars series launched in 2015 ahead of the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Emo Kylo Ren remixes the problems of Adam Driver's Star Wars villain with the diary of an emotional teenager, addressing issues like Hot Topic, the resurrection of My Chemical Romance, Jared Leto's Joker, and his father Han Solo (who he relishes in having killed). Now that The Mandalorian has made its debut, the account is taking aim at the Disney+ series with a hilarious new jab. “oh so now it is *cool* to wear a helmet and be a baby for decades,” the account tweeted, a double-whammy reference for the Star Wars series.
