Mortal Kombat featurette highlights deep martial arts roots that inspired the videogames

A new Mortal Kombat featurette released ahead of the reboot's theatrical and HBO Max premiere on April 23. The filmmakers and kast share how they brought their fighting skills and knowledge to the Mortal Kombat arena. Director Simon McQuoid explains how important the actors' physicality was to ensuring the level of brutality brought the same energy as the fights in the popular videogame series. McQuoid then goes on to say how the best way to make the fights looks real is to have actors and actresses who can execute those moves – mentioning Lewis Tan, who is a trained martial artist. This should make fans of the videogame series even more excited. Batman’s cast has expanded – meet all the new Gothamites

Over the last few years, the writers of the ongoing Batman title and its spin-offs have greatly expanded the cast of heroes and villains operating in Gotham City. Current writer James Tynion IV is wasting no time picking up the tradition set by his predecessors, Tom King and Scott Snyder, of bringing in new allies and enemies for the Caped Crusader, with more new Gotham characters including The Gardener in Batman #107 and Miracle Molly who makes her first appearance in May. Ubisoft launches online channel gTV in UK tomorrow

Ubisoft is launching a new online channel in the UK with original talk show, comedy and documentary series. gTV will stream online via Twitch, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and feature series focused on the wider world of video games culture - not just Assassin's Creed. In Ubisoft's words, the channel will "feature a wide range of original programming inspired not only by Ubisoft, but by the video game industry at large, going behind-the-scenes on how games are created and celebrating the the people who make and play them, as well as the biggest events in the gaming calendar". Celebrities signed up to appear include Nicola Adams, Rufus Hound and Asim Chaudhry, as well as former Eurogamer alum Ellie Gibson. gTV has already been up and running for a year now in France and Germany, with a similar mix of programming. Steve Urkel Actor Jaleel White Launching New Weed Brand On 4/20

Jaleel White, who played Steve Urkel on Family Matters, is following in the footsteps of Seth Rogen and launching his own weed brand. He has partnered with 710 Labs to create a new line of cannabis called ItsPurpl. White is planning to launch his new marijuana line on the stoner's holiday, April 20. At launch, it will be available at dispensaries across California before potentially expanding later. White told Forbes that he sees a gap in the market for a particular type of grass. "The thing that always stood out to me was there no clear brand leader for fire purple weed," White said. "It made no sense to me, that no company of significance had claimed this lane, so why not me?" White met 710 Labs founder Brad Melshenker on a flight and they bonded over their love of pot. The Purple Urkle strains will be available in eighths, vape pens, and a unique joint variation called a Noodle Doink that uses a fusilli noodle for the crutch.
