No Man's Sky is adding cross-platform multiplayer starting June 11, the same day the title goes live on Xbox and PC Game Pass. "Do you have a friend on another gaming system with whom you’ve always wanted to explore the great unknown? A legendary base you’ve seen videos of but never been able to visit? A mission that you think would be great to play with friends on other platforms?" blog post announcing the move. As GamesRadar previously reported , No Man's Sky (formerly a PlayStation console exclusive) is the June addition to Xbox Game Pass, which means it will be available for Windows 10 operating systems as well. With the added bonus of crossplay, players from all platforms can do some planet mining in tandem and alien riding. It's great to see how No Man's Sky has evolved as an IP since it launched in 2016. First it was just a PlayStation exclusive with a more traditional multiplayer construct. Then, it went to Xbox in 2018 and in 2019 the Beyond update … [Read more...] about No Man’s Sky will have multiplayer crossplay when it drops on Xbox Game Pass

Valheim Update Adds Dedicated Server Upgrades And More
A new patch is available now for the hit Norse multiplayer game Valheim . Among a handful of smaller changes, it makes a big change for dedicated servers and also tweaks the game balance so wolves are less horny. Starting with the dedicated servers, this new update makes it so dedicated servers now always use direct connections instead of using the Steam Datagram Relay (SDR) system. "This should result in much lower latency for most players," developer Iron Gate said. "I really hope this patch solves a lot of connection issues introduced in last weeks patches (due to switching socket backend)," the studio said. Elsewhere, the March 2 update for Valheim contains a change that makes wolves less likely to mate. The patch notes state that the update "lowered wolf procreation slightly." The developers apparently thought there was something wrong with wolves making cubs more than they should, so wolves are slightly less horny now, to borrow a phrase from PCGamer . PlayStation Store discontinuing TV and movie purchases and rentals
The PlayStation Store will be discontinuing movie and TV purchases and rentals later this year. The discontinuing of rentals and purchases through the PSN Store was announced over on the PlayStation Blog earlier today. "We’ve seen tremendous growth from PlayStation fans using subscription-based and ad-based entertainment streaming services on our consoles," explains Vanessa Lee, head of video business at Sony. "With this shift in customer behavior, we have decided to no longer offer movie and TV purchases and rentals through PlayStation Store as of August 31, 2021." It's important to note, however, that after movie and TV purchases and rentals are discontinued through the PSN Store, you can still access all previously purchased content. So if you purchased any TV shows or movies prior to August 31, you'll still be able to watch them whenever you want. We can't say that the move away from on-demand content like this comes as a huge surprise from Sony. The company all but … [Read more...] about PlayStation Store discontinuing TV and movie purchases and rentals
This Gateway laptop with a GTX 2060 and 120Hz screen is back down to $799 again
This one pops up on sale every so often, and each time it does, I feel compelled to let you know about it, because $799 is a fantastic price for the hardware. The star of the show, of course, is the GeForce RTX 2060. It's slightly less interesting now that Nvidia has launched its GeForce RTX 30 series in mobile form, but still an exciting option in this price range. To put the price into perspective, the least expensive laptop with an RTX 2060 at Best Buy (non open box/refurbished, that is) is the MSI GS66 10SE, currently discounted from $1,500 to $1,100. It's a beefier config all around, though it should be, at $300 more than the Gateway Creator model highlighted here.
